The man behind the restoration of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Fresnel lens

It stands just under 10 feet and weighs 5,050 pounds and is the future crown jewel of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. The reproduction of the original 1853 Fresnel lens and pedestal, crafted by engineer Dan Spinella of Winter Garden Florida, is almost complete. It will eventually find its home in a newly renovated Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.
According to Cape Hatteras National Seashore public affairs specialist Mike Barber, the fabrication of the lens was included in the overall $19.2 million project awarded to Stone & Lime Historic Restoration Services in Septembe
