SHEPHERDSTOWN--The Lost River Educational Foundation hosted Harrisonburg resident Gary Smucker and co-presenter Shepherdstown resident Kathy Sholl, who spoke on the lives of expert weavers Leora and Lynn Tusing. The talk was held at the Lost River Yoga Barn on Saturday, Sept. 13.
Smucker’s PowerPoint presentation and Sholl’s memories of her aunts focused on two of the five Tusing sisters, Leora (1896-1974) and Lynn (1905-2000). The two sisters lived nearly self-sufficient lives as they managed a 255-acre farm on top of Branch Mountain in Hardy County. They were strong in their Mennonite faith and lived a unique pioneer lifestyle, despite the inventions of modern-day conveniences.
