The college community is banding together after a young woman was shot and killed in downtown Columbia, Missouri, over the weekend.

Aiyanna Williams was a celebrated student athlete at nearby Stephens College. Saturday's shooting has raised concerns over what University of Missouri President Mun Choi is calling a " crime crisis ."

Misael Covarrubias , 23, is in custody on charges of first-degree assault, armed criminal action and the unlawful use of a weapon.

The Columbia Police Department said the man from Florida is suspected of pulling the trigger into a crowd on Saturday. Williams was struck and died Sunday at a nearby hospital. Two others were injured.
