BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —

Legendary ports talk host Paul Finebaum is considering running for the U.S. Senate in Alabama as a Republican, saying on a podcast that he was inspired by the assassination of Charlie Kirk .

Finebaum, who moved back to the Birmingham area earlier this year, made the revelation to Clay Travis on Outkick.

Finebaum spent much of his career in Birmingham hosting a sports talk radio show before moving to North Carolina for the SEC Network.

He would be running for Sen. Tommy Tuberville's seat, as Tuberville is not seeking reelection and has instead announced he will be pursuing the governor's office .
