ST. CHARLES, MI – An upcoming tree planting event will replace trees St. Charles Community Schools lost due to a tornado that hit the area in May.
Volunteers will plant 20 trees during an event this week to provide shade for athletes and spectators at the softball field, baseball field, and practice football field, said St. Charles Community Schools Superintendent Ronald Stanley.
“Hopefully those trees will be around another hundred years or so,” Stanley said.
The tornado, which touched down in St. Charles on May 16, left homes damaged and local roads impassable in addition to uprooting trees. The district alone lost about six trees.
“I think two or three of them were totally destroyed,” Stanley said.
