A new controversy has erupted in Hollywood after SAG-AFTRA, the actors’ union, issued a strong statement against Tilly Norwood, an AI “actress” created by actor and tech innovator Eline Van der Velden. Tilly recently gained attention after Eline claimed several talent agents were interested in signing the AI creation.

What did SAG-AFTRA say about Tilly Norwood?

In its statement, SAG-AFTRA made its position very clear: “Creativity is, and should remain, human-centred.” The union said it strongly opposes the replacement of human actors by synthetic performers.

According to the union, Tilly Norwood is not a real actress at all but “a character generated by a computer program trained on the work of countless professional performers, without permission or compensation.”
