Shillong, Sept 30: First-time Voice of the People Party (VPP) MDC from Nongthymmai Winston Tony Lyngdoh was elected unopposed as the new chief executive member (CEM) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).

The election, necessitated by the resignation of former CEM Shemborlang Rynjah due to health reasons, saw no opposition candidates come forward to challenge Lyngdoh's nomination.

This was announced by the KHADC Chairman Strong Pillar Kharjana during the special session of the council held today.

Lyngdoh was escorted to the CEM's chair by fellow executive member Powell Sohkhlet and Opposition Leader Titosstarwell Chyne.

The felicitation ceremony was participated by almost all the MDCs including 17 MDCs from the ruling VPP.
