YOUNGSTOWN First responders, including police detectives and the coroner, responded to a scene of what was reported to be an accident involving a pedestrian on Youngstown's South Side.

Dispatchers were first told that someone was trapped after a crash on Loveland Road near Pointview Avenue at around 10:30 a.m. Monday.

When firefighters arrived, they reported that no one was trapped, but it appeared that a person had been struck by a car and that the victim was seriously injured.

The 21 News crew could see what appeared to be a body covered with a sheet in a nearby front yard. Police on scene confirmed that one man was killed.

The Mahoning County Coroner's Office released a statement on Tuesday identifying the victim as 53-year-old Joseph Novacich.
