SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- After going dark for two years, San Francisco's historic Castro Theatre will reopen next year with a residency from British singer Sam Smith. The Grammy-Award-winning pop-soul balladeer announced the February 2026 residency on social media.
"San Francisco, we're bringing my To Be Free residency to the Castro," Smith posted on his Instagram on Tuesday.
The residency, which takes its name from Smith's latest single, will mark the reopening of the historic theater, which has been closed for renovations for two years. A post on the Castro's website confirmed that the venue would be reopening in February.
