MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Rock County Sheriff’s Office is warning of a phone scam where callers are posing as deputies to get people to send money.

The agency said these recent phone calls involve callers using different names of current deputies or supervisors with the Rock County Sheriff’s Office, asking for money to clear up a legal issue.

The phony callers have also set up voicemail messages identifying as Rock County Sheriff’s Office staff members, so that it looks real if someone tries to leave a message.

The Sheriff’s Office assured residents it would never call them to ask for money.

So far, Rock Co. officials said there haven’t been any reports of any funds lost by the public.
