A man once facing the death penalty in the workplace murder of his ex-girlfriend pleaded guilty Tuesday to third-degree murder.
Sean Black, 44, was sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison in the 2024 killing of Courtney Black at Tri-Arc Manufacturing in Blawnox.
The pair had three children together, and 30-year-old Ms. Smith had broken off their years-long relationship shortly before the March 19 shooting. She was dating another Tri-Arc coworker, who Smith wounded in the shooting.
The District Attorney’s office withdrew its intent to seek the death penalty in October, citing the Smith family’s “concern for the well-being of her children.”
