One person in Gonzales died early Tuesday morning during a traffic stop with Louisiana State Police and detectives with the agency's Force Investigation Unit are looking into the shooting.

The shooting happened before 2 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of La. Hwy 431 and La. Hwy 935 outside of Gonzales.

A trooper initiated a traffic stop at that intersection, during which he fired his service weapon. One person was transported to a local hospital from the stop, where they died.

The trooper was uninjured.

FIU personnel and the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab are working to process the scene and gather further information. This is an active investigation and further information will be released when it becomes available, a release from state police said.
