Local churches will welcome pets and their owners for special blessings in conjunction with the feast day of St. Francis, the patron saint of animals, on Oct. 4.

Grace Episcopal Church in Yukon will host a full day of activities Oct. 5, including blessing of stuffed animals at 9 and 11 a.m., an Extreme Animal show at 10 a.m. and pet blessings at 4 p.m.

Most churches require pets to be on leashes or in carriers and ask that only vaccinated animals attend. Participants should check specific requirements for each event.

Additional Oct. 5 events include:

– St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church, 14700 N May, will hold a blessing of stuffed animals and pets at 10:45 a.m.
