A huge 6.8 magnitude earthquake has hit Leyte in the Philippines.

Locals have been issued with a major warning after the large tremor struck the islands in Asia, with residents living near the shoreline urged to move inland immediately.

The earthquake is believed to have erupted at around 10 pm local time. It is said to have occured underwater. 17:30 Anders Anglesey

University students flee dorms

Visayas State University students fled their dormitories after the tremors struck around 10pm today.
