WASHINGTON — As a government shutdown looms, many federal employees in D.C. are facing furloughs or even losing their jobs. But one group of them will keep on working. That is the National Guard troops that have been deployed to the District since Aug. 11.
If Congress doesn't pass a bill to fund the government by 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, it will shut down. That means all non-essential federal workers will have to stop working until Congress does pass a spending bill. But active-duty military personnel have to continue working without pay. That includes deployed National Guard members.
