LEWIS COUNTY, N.Y. (WWTI) - Tonight's colder temperatures have led to the National Weather Service issuing a Freeze Watch for Lewis County in the overnight hours.
The alert will go from late Wednesday night through Thursday morning due to possible sub-freezing temperatures in the upper 20s.
The frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation, and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
The NWS offered tips to prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes. The pipes should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those who have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
