Australia needs to sever defence agreements with Israel or risk complicity in genocide, a United Nations expert says.
The nation's international credibility was on the line despite its belated recognition of the state of Palestine at the UN, Australian human rights lawyer Chris Sidoti said.
"We should be ending all defence co-operation, including closing the Australian government's Defence and Trade office in Jerusalem," he told AAP before a National Press Club address on Wednesday.
"The responsibility is simply to take whatever action is necessary to prevent the genocide in Gaza from occurring."
