DES MOINES, Iowa —
About 100 people gathered Monday afternoon outside the Neal Smith Federal Building to protest the arrest of Dr. Ian Roberts , chanting phrases such as “No one is illegal” and “Free Doctor Roberts” and chalking messages on the sidewalk.
Organized by the Party for Socialism and Liberation Iowa, the demonstration criticized U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and raised concerns about the arrest’s impact on the Des Moines school district.
“These students need to feel like they’re supported by their communities, when they feel abandoned by their government and school systems,” Roosevelt High School student Ivy Wishman said.
