HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) - The man accused of killing three people in a home near Haubstadt plans to use insanity as a defense.
Attorneys for Patrick Waite filed the paperwork in court in Gibson County. Prosecutors objected, but Judge Rober Kreig overruled the objection and will allow Waite to attempt to use insanity as a defense.
The Court will appoint at least two if not three medical professionals to evaluate Waite. One must be a psychiatrist, and one must be a psychologist.
As previously reported, Waite is accused of shooting and killing his wife, his wife's son and his wife's mother in their home on South Scottsdale Drive just outside of Haubstadt. Waite surrendered at the scene. Court documents show Waite believes his wife's family was trying to steal his home and other possessions.
