A five-year dream to establish a flourishing carbon farming program on degraded government-owned land has failed to plant a single tree.
Now the Cook government has abandoned its Carbon for Conservation initiative after Woodside pushed the eject button on its proposal to plant trees in the Gnangara state forest in April, on the basis that it was not financially viable.
Labor invited businesses to apply to join the Carbon for Conservation initiative in August 2020, with a view to rejuvenating degraded crown land across the state while helping them offset their carbon emissions.
“Carbon farming capitalises on Western Australia’s significant potential for reducing and offsetting carbon emissions and represents an important opportunity to contribute to global efforts,” the government said a
