PROSECUTORS have dropped the main charge against a man who was accused of breaking into a home and sexually abusing a child.
Peter John Jones remains bail refused and watched on from custody at a Hunter correctional centre as his three charges were mentioned in Tamworth Local Court.
The now 51-year-old has been in custody since his arrest in Currabubula, near Tamworth, on March 23, by detectives from the state's Child Abuse Squad.
The Leader revealed Jones' arrest after the then 50-year-old was accused of breaking into a home in Quirindi between 11.30pm on March 22 and 12.12am on March 23.
Some of the details - including the street where the break-in occurred - cannot be reported to protect the identity of the complainants.
But now that charge has been dropped in court.
So
