GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Calhoun County Public Health Department confirmed on Tuesday that a bat tested positive for rabies.
The case is the first one in the county this year, according to the health department, who is reminding residents to be cautious heading into the fall and winter months when wild animal and bat activity are known to increase.
“Bats can sometimes bite without leaving a noticeable mark, especially when found in the bedroom or inside the home,” Environmental Public Health Operations Coordinator Stephanie Hanchett said in a statement. “If there is concern that someone may have been exposed through a bite or scratch, we encourage residents to contact CCPHD Environmental Health to coordinate testing of
