As the clock ticks down to an impending federal government shutdown , workers at the National Park Service are revisiting the department’s contingency plan for lapsed funding.

The federal government will enter a shutdown at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1 if an agreement is not reached beforehand.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the NPS told MLive the March 2024 plan for a lapse in funds was being reviewed and updated. New plans will be online here as soon as they’re finalized.

Here’s what the current plan outlines for Michigan’s national parks: Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Isle Royale National Park, Keweenaw National Historical Park and River Raisin National Battlefield Park.
