BUXTON, N.C. (WITN) - Five more oceanfront homes fell into the Atlantic today as Hurricane Imelda whips up waves crashing onto our coast.

Dare County says three homes on Cottage Avenue in Buxton, and two on Tower Circle Road, were destroyed.

No injuries have been reported, and the National Park Service says all five were unoccupied. The collapses happened around high tide, which was at 2:00 p.m.

The Cape Hatteras National Seashore says additional collapses are possible due to the ocean conditions.

The entire beachfront, from northern Buxton through the northern section of off-road vehicle ramp 43 is now closed.

The five homes bring to 17 the number of beach homes that have been lost in the Buxton and Rodanthe area in the past five years.
