CLEVELAND -- The Detroit Tigers got a stellar outing from ace Tarik Skubal and held on for a 2-1 win in Game 1 of their best-of-three Wildcard series against the Cleveland Guardians.

They now have a 1-0 series lead and will try to close out the series Wednesday afternoon and advance to the ALDS.

Skubal threw 7.2 innings of one-run baseball while striking out 14 Cleveland batters.

Detroit found just enough offense with RBIs from Spencer Torkelson and Zach McKinstry.

Will Vest finished the game and closed out a scary 9th inning, allowing Jose Ramirez to reach third base to lead off the inning, but he retired the next three Cleveland batters.
