(NEXSTAR) – Amazon is making a change to benefits for its Prime members starting Wednesday, Oct. 1. It affects who can receive Prime delivery without a Prime subscription.

Beginning Wednesday, Amazon is ending its Prime Invitee program — which allowed non-Prime subscribers to get free shipping if a Prime subscriber invited them, even if they lived in a different household. As explained on the Amazon customer service page, the company says it's replacing the invitee program with its Amazon Family program, which offers some benefit-sharing, but with more caveats.

Under Amazon Family, Prime members can only share benefits with one adult who lives in the same household, in addition to four teenagers (if they were added before April 7, 2025, per Amazon) and up to four profiles for children.
