The Odisha Government is preparing to enforce stricter regulations around the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri, aimed at preserving the sanctity of the revered shrine.

Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan on Tuesday said that all liquor outlets operating within a one-kilometre radius of the temple will soon be shut down. “Once the policy framework is finalised, the decision will be implemented without compromise,” he stated.

The government intends to outlaw the selling of non-vegetarian food products along the famous Badadanda (Grand Road) and the alleys that run beside it, which are the primary entrance to the temple from the 12th century, in addition to the prohibition on alcohol.
