OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - On this day in 2015, Conagra announced it would move its headquarters from downtown Omaha to Chicago.
Around 1,500 people lost their jobs as part of the move.
Conagra’s CEO, Sean Connolly, said the move would save the company hundreds of millions of dollars.
Conagra had a home in Omaha since the 1920s. It even threatened to move in the 1980s, but state and local officials razed the former “Jobber’s Canyon,” and changed tax incentive laws to coax the company into staying.
Conagra still has a presence here, the company retained about 1,200 employees in Omaha after the move.
