An earthquake on Cebu island in the Philippines has left at least 69 people dead with hundreds more injured, causing massive damage to several cities as a ‘state of calamity’ was declared.

Eyewitnesses said the earthquake ‘felt like the end of the world’, causing cracks to form in roads and buildings to collapse.

Rescuers are looking for survivors but it’s not known how many more people are still missing under the rubble.

The 6.9 magnitude tremor struck in the so-called Ring of Fire and its expected aftershocks could carry on for months.
