A massive rooftop bar that opened in Boston earlier this year has decided to cease operations “for the foreseeable future.”
The Essex Rooftop in South Boston, which opened in May, shared the news of the closure in an Instagram post Tuesday night, Sept. 30.
“Thank you for a great summer at The Essex Rooftop! Unfortunately, we have been unable to to obtain an entertainment license from the City due to ongoing opposition from the neighbors,” the post read.
“Therefore we have decided to close all operations at The Cambria Hotel for the foreseeable future,” it continued. “We truly appreciate those who supported us.”
The closure impacts the Essex Rooftop , located atop the hotel in Southie, and its downstairs restaurant The Essex , which opened in March.
