The Fort Worth Fire Department is investigating a deadly fire that broke out on Wednesday morning.

According to the Fort Worth Fire Department, the fire started at around 4 a.m. in the 8200 block of Lifford Place in West Fort Worth, near Western Hills High School.

Officials said when firefighters arrived, they found an elderly man outside the home and realized he needed help.

Firefighters then found an elderly woman inside the home, fire officials said. First responders attempted life-saving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man who was found outside the home was injured during the fire. He is currently in critical condition and is receiving treatment at a local burn unit.

According to fire officials, two dogs were also found dead inside the home.
