CORTLAND, Ohio (WKBN) - The City of Cortland was given 30 days to provide documentation of corrective action steps after a former wastewater worker made dumping allegations at a public meeting in September.
A letter dated Tuesday from the Environmental Protection Agency to Mayor Diedre Petrosky notes that excessive precipitation in the area of Cortland's sanitary sewer system resulted in a sanitary sewer overflow from the lift station into a storm sewer system that serves Old Oak Drive. That then discharged into Walnut Creek.
The letter notes that the city failed to immediately report the overflow to the Ohio EPA and the Trumbull County Combined Health District, as required, and failed to submit a "Sanitary Sewer Overflow 5-Day Follow Up Report."
