WEATHERSFIELD TWP., Ohio - The Bomb Squad and the Weathersfield Township Police Department investigated after a concerned citizen brought in a device believed to be an explosive to the Weathersfield Township Fire Department.
According to a post on the Weathersfield Fire Department's Facebook page, the concerned citizen came to the station to report the discovery of what they believed to be an explosive device.
The department says the item was part of a recent acquisition from an auction site.
Weathersfield PD and the Bomb Squad were immediately notified and began investigating the situation.
Ultimately, the item turned out to be a railroad torpedo, which is a small, inherently dangerous explosive charge historically placed on railway lines to detonate audibly when compressed by train
