Family mourns high school student, 17, killed in crash

The family of a Thorndale-area teenager who died in a head-on crash near his high school says they are devastated by the loss.

“We are deeply devastated by the loss of our son Gavin and are so grateful for the love and support that we have received from family, friends and our community,” Gavin DeClark’s family said in a statement provided to The Free Press.

DeClark, 17, died when his SUV crossed the centre line and collided with a grain truck on Medway Road Monday afternoon, Ontario Provincial Police in Middlesex County said.

Police say the SUV was heading east when it crossed the centre line and crashed with the grain truck travelling in the westbound lane. The grain truck driver suffered minor injuries, police said.
