WASHINGTON — Jimmy and Stephen Colbert spent Tuesday night on each other’s late-night shows, swapping stories regarding the recent upheavals in their careers.

Kimmel, who’s in New York for his annual week of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” tapings in Brooklyn, appeared on CBS for "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" before hosting Colbert on his own show later that evening. Both comedians have faced major behind-the-scenes drama in recent months, , and CBS announcing that “The Late Show” will end in May 2026.

On Colbert’s show, Kimmel recalled how he learned on Sept. 17 that ABC was his program off the air over comments he made about the killing of Charlie Kirk.
