Des Moines police have identified the pedestrian killed in an early morning crash on Highway 5.

According to a Wednesday, Oct. 1, update from the Des Moines Police Department, a preliminary review of evidence shows the victim, Corey Nathaniel Hiatt, 51, was crossing the highway from the north shoulder toward the center median when a westbound vehicle struck him.

The incident was reported shortly after 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 28. at Highway 5 near Southwest Ninth Street, where police found Hiatt dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle involved, also an adult male, was not injured.

Investigators ruled out driver impairment as a contributing factor.

The DMPD Traffic Unit continues to investigate, spokesperson Sgt. Paul Parizek said in Wednesday’s release.
