A man died in a head-on collision Tuesday morning in Morganton.

Jacob Honeycutt, 29, of Morganton, was taken to UNC Health Blue Ridge after a wreck on Kirksey Drive in Morganton Tuesday morning. He died at the hospital, according to the Morganton Department of Public Safety.

The other driver, Desmond Thompson, was also taken to the Morganton hospital and was later taken to another medical facility, according to a release from public safety.

The wreck happened just before 8 a.m. in the area of 417 Kirksey Drive. A Dodge Dakota driven by Honeycutt and a Ford Expedition driven by Thompson collided, according to the release.

The two vehicles had significant front-end damage from the wreck, according to public safety.

The cause of the wreck is under investigation.
