Mohsin Naqvi, Chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), has invited the Indian cricket team to collect the Asia Cup trophy from him at the ACC's head office in Dubai. This statement comes amid ongoing controversy regarding the trophy presentation after India defeated Pakistan in the final. Naqvi took to X to clarify that he did not apologise to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials during the ACC Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday, as some reports suggested.
Naqvi, who also serves as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board and is known for his anti-India stance, stated, "As ACC President, I was ready to hand over the trophy that very day and I am still ready now. If they truly want it, they are welcome to come to the ACC office and collect it from me." He emphasized, "Let me make it absolutely clear: I have done nothing wrong and I have never apologised to the BCCI nor will I ever do so."
During the AGM, BCCI representatives Ashish Shelar and Rajeev Shukla expressed strong objections regarding the trophy not being handed over to the Indian team, which was led by Suryakumar Yadav. Although Naqvi indicated his willingness to present the trophy, no resolution was reached at the meeting, further frustrating BCCI officials. The board plans to address this issue at the upcoming ICC meeting in November.
India and Pakistan faced each other three times during the tournament, with India winning all matches, including the final. The Indian team maintained a 'no handshake policy' with Pakistani players, which angered the Pakistan Cricket Board. Tensions between the two nations have escalated following the Pahalgam terror attack, where 26 Indian tourists were killed by Pakistan-backed terrorists. In response, India launched military operations to target terror infrastructure across the border.
