A Sudbury woman who stabbed another woman in a dispute over dogs will return to court in Sudbury on Oct. 14.

Jessie Brave, 31, had been charged with attempted murder. On June 10, Brave pleaded guilty to aggravated assault for an attack almost a year ago at an Errington Avenue apartment complex in Chelmsford.

Brave was to have her sentencing hearing in August, but her lawyer, Michael Michel, wanted to have a mental health assessment done on his client before the hearing was held.

A mental health assessment can take anywhere from 30 to 90 days to order and complete, Michel told The Sudbury Star last month.

The sentencing hearing will be contested. The Crown has indicated it will be seeking “a significant penitentiary sentence.”
