EAST LANSING – On a sun-splashed early evening to close September, the Michigan State marching band’s practice sounds echoed across campus.

It’s still football season but the pressure is already ramping up inside the Breslin Center.

A week into practice officially starting , coach Tom Izzo was asked about the potential competition at shooting guard between returning sophomore Kur Teng and veteran transfer Trey Fort.

“It hasn’t been very competitive right now because Trey is not guarding so he has got to guard somebody because my 99-year-old mother is not the person I need him guarding,” Izzo said. “I need him guarding people, so we are on him about that.”

Izzo’s critique came after saying Fort missed the last four days due to illness but that didn’t make him immune to criticism. Seni
