Sarnia Coun. Bill Dennis was reprimanded Wednesday by Lambton County council for comments made during a meeting last November after the Aamjiwnaang First Nation council asked to receive money from an environmental fine paid by a local industry.

The comments came during a county council meeting considering a letter from Aamjiwnaang Chief Janelle Nahmabin asking that a fine paid by Imperial Oil following a “slop oil” spill in 2021 be given to the First Nation. Aamjiwnaang members were among those affected by the spill.

County council received and filed the letter during the meeting where Dennis made several comments, after which Nahmabin filed a code of conduct complaint.
