A juvenile coyote in north St. Catharines — likely a few months from dying from an extreme case of mange — is on the mend at a wildlife rehabilitation facility.
During the last couple weeks, Humane Society of Greater Niagara’s dispatch had been receiving calls about the sickly animal in the area of Ontario Street and Linwell Road. The pup, about the equivalent of a teenager in maturity, had been reported running down the street and entering residents’ backyards. Callers made note of its deteriorated condition and reported it had mange, missing fur, scabs and a limp.
Animal control officers responded to each call but were never able to get to the scene before it left.
