While the work to figure out how to provide a temporary shelter in Stratford is ongoing, the city councillor who broached the subject is disappointed a solution wasn’t reached months ago, not a few weeks before the weather turns cold.

“The shelter is the main priority. We never know what weather is coming. Last winter was very harsh, but why are we not ready for the 2026 budget? That 2026 budget, what (does that) look like? And that’s a plan, of course. It takes a long time,” Coun. Geza Wordofa said in an interview with the Beacon Herald.

At council’s Sept. 8 meeting Wordofa proposed establishing a temporary shelter at the Stratford Rotary Complex in next year’s budget, providing a safe and warm place for the city’s homeless when they are out of other options.
