DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) -- The Decatur Fire Department responded after an "improperly discarded" cigarette led to a home catching fire Tuesday afternoon.
Firefighters responded to a home near the intersection of E. North Street and N. 23rd Street just before 1:30 p.m.
When the crews arrived, they found smoke coming from a two-story home. The first team on the scene worked to put out the fire while additional crews searched the home, vented out the smoke, made sure the crews had enough water to fight the fire and secured utilities to the residence.
The firefighters were able to keep the fire contained to the room it started in. No injuries were reported.
