A strong cold front has swept through Maryland, bringing a return of cooler weather and keeping Hurricane Imelda far away from the east coast. However, there is still a high risk of rip currents and rough surf up and down the east coast. A persistent northeast breeze is also creating higher than normal tides as Imelda pulls away and heads out to sea.

Temperatures peak in the upper 60s and lower 70s before 5 p.m. under lots of sunshine. The sky remains mostly clear this evening. The weather setup will allow temperatures to cool quickly after sunset. Most neighborhoods will be cooler than 60° by 10 p.m.
