BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- The Louisiana Department of Insurance says that since Congress missed the deadline to renew the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), no new flood policies can be issued or renewed for now.

Existing policies are still valid until they expire, and claims will still be paid as long as funds last. LDI said some sales in flood zones may be delayed without coverage, but private insurance could be an option.

LDI encourages consumers to contact insurance agents for help finding companies that offer flood policies.
