The Mooresville Police Department is about to become one of the first departments in America to deploy high-tech drones to track robbery and theft suspects fleeing crime scenes.

Starting from headquarters at U.S. 21 and Brawley School Road, trained dispatchers will launch drones with a single command. The aircraft will follow suspect descriptions reported via 911, quickly responding at speeds up to 58 mph—often faster than patrol officers.

The cutting-edge MATRICE 30T drones are equipped with thermal cameras, zoom lenses, and laser rangefinders. They can operate in extreme temperatures and fly in poor weather, giving officers a real-time view of suspects until ground units arrive.

Mooresville is now one of only 12 departments nationwide using this drone technology for law enforcement. O
