BISMARCK, N.D. (KVRR-KFGO) – The Public Service Commission has scheduled a public hearing later this month on Xcel Energy’s proposed 19% electric rate increase in North Dakota.

It’s the largest rate increase ever requested by Xcel for North Dakota’s 97,000 customers. The increase would bring in more than $44 million a year for Minnesota-based Xcel.

The hearing will be held on October 13 with people able to testify in person at noon or 6 p.m. There will be a video connection and commissioners will hear comments given at listening locations in Grand Forks, Minot and Fargo. In Fargo, the hearing location will be at the State College of Science campus on 19th Ave. North.

The PSC says information from the hearing may be used during a formal technical hearing.
