WILLIAMSTON, S.C. (WBTV) - A man was charged with DUI after he was involved in a crash that left a South Carolina detective dead on Wednesday.

The Oct. 1 crash happened around 1:15 p.m. along , near Vernon Street, in Williamston.

South Carolina Highway Patrol said a person on a motorcycle was heading south on Anderson Highway when a northbound car turned left onto Vernon Street. When the car turned, the motorcycle hit it in the passenger side.

The person on the motorcycle died at the scene, while the car driver was not hurt.

Sister-station later reported that the person on the motorcycle was 56-year-old Mark Garrett, who was a detective for the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office. The person driving the car was identified as Douglas H. Lueck. Anderson County jail records showed Lueck
