WASHINGTON — The White House says thousands of federal workers could be on the chopping block as the government shutdown continues.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was vague on details but told reporters on Thursday, "Look it's likely going to be in the thousands, and that's something that the Office of Management and Budget and the entire team at the White House here, again, is unfortunately having to work on today."

President Donald Trump announced that he was meeting on Wednesday with the Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), Russell Vought, who is also one of the architects of the Heritage Foundation's Project 2025 . The president posted on Truth Social:
